Applications Engineer (Model-Based Design)
Model-Based Design is a process that utilises software modelling and simulation to improve the software system design process through iterative refinement, continuous verification, rapid prototyping and automatic code generation. A Model-Based Design Applications Engineer will work directly with customers to understand their technical and business challenges and then to help them understand how to apply MathWorks products to their problems.
A Model-Based Design Applications Engineer is responsible for any of the following tasks:
- Analysing users' problems to determine a suitable solution and advising on the best implementation approach. Customers who are preparing to acquire software may require guidance on how to use evaluation products; the Applications Engineer assists customers with the use of MathWorks products to solve specific problems.
- Developing demonstration programs and application examples. These are generally used to illustrate a solution or approach in support of customer engagements, but can also be used to help demonstrate technical capabilities in new application areas.
- Providing pre-sales technical support and guidance to our customers. Working as a team, the applications engineer will assist the sales person first in understanding and synthesizing customer requirements, then explaining the features and capabilities of MathWorks products specific to their needs.
- Preparing and delivering product presentations to customers and prospects. These are delivered during customer meetings and marketing seminars to audiences ranging from one to one hundred. These sessions include, but are not limited to, live demonstrations of MATLAB with relevant toolboxes and deployment products, and associated PowerPoint slide presentations.
- Utilising technical and interpersonal skills to help our customers apply MathWorks tools in the best way to their particular applications.
- Supporting customers across a broad range of industries.
As an Applications Engineer the applicant should have the following qualifications and experience:
- A postgraduate qualification (Honours, Masters or Doctorate) in engineering, applied mathematics or science.
- A strong knowledge of (and enthusiasm for!) MATLAB and/or Simulink. Experience with a broad set of MathWorks tools is a plus.
- The ability to perform computational analysis, modelling, and simulation tasks and be interested in working directly with customers to help them understand how MathWorks products and OPTI-NUM services are used to solve engineering and business problems.
- The ability to flexibly work in a team, or independently.
- Strong communication, writing and presentation skills.
- Experience working in aerospace and defence, finance or the process industries is a plus.
- Knowledge of C/C++, HDL, Java and/or Microsoft .NET technologies is a plus.
