Release 2010a: Available Now

Release 2010a, including MATLAB 7.10 and Simulink 7.5, became available on 5 March 2010. Release 2010a includes new capabilities for stream processing, file sharing, and multicore processing in MATLAB, and tuneable parameter structures, triggered model blocks, and function call branching for large-scale modelling in Simulink. Optimisation tools (including Global Optimization Toolbox - previously Genetic Algorithm and Direct Search Toolbox - and Optimization Toolbox) feature new nonlinear solvers. A new product, Simulink PLC Coder, generates IEC 61131 Structured Text from Simulink models, for use in PLCs and PACs. Embedded IDE Link and Target Support Package now work with Eclipse, Embedded Linux and ARM processors.

Customers who are current on Software Maintenance can download Release 2010a, or request a DVD shipment from the License Centre.

Training Schedule 2010

2010 sees a number of changes to our course offerings and scheduled public courses. Our most popular course, MATLAB Fundamentals, has been expanded to 3 days, mainly to accommodate concerns about too much material being offered with insufficient time to fully explore the exercises. We have also introduced scheduled courses for Control Design Acceleration, Image Processing, Advanced MATLAB Programming, and (by popular demand) Building Graphical User Interfaces. View our complete public training schedule for 2010. You can register for these courses from our training schedule page.

Our available course list has expanded to include MATLAB for Data Processing and Visualisation, Integrating Code with Simulink, and Model Management and Verification in Simulink. You can view a catalogue of available courses on our training courses page. Contact us to request onsite training for any of these courses.

Energy Virtual Conference: MATLAB and Simulink Solutions for Addressing the World’s Energy Needs

On 25 March 2010, The MathWorks will be hosting the Energy Virtual Conference from 11: 00 to 21:00 (SAST). The Energy Virtual Conference will showcase real-world examples of how professionals use MathWorks solutions to evaluate energy resources, develop systems for power generation and distribution, model energy markets, and create products that consume less energy and produce less waste. Application areas include:

  • Electrical utilities
  • Hybrid electric vehicles
  • Oil and gas
  • Solar power
  • Wind power

At the Energy Virtual Conference you get everything a normal conference provides – live presentations, an exhibit floor, virtual networking lounge – and more (on-demand presentations); all without the expense of travelling to the conference.

To find out more, and to pre-register for the conference, visit the Energy Virtual Conference page.

On-Demand Webinar: PID Control Made Easy

PID control is ubiquitous. Although simple in theory, the design and tuning of PID controllers can be difficult and time consuming in practice. View this hour-long webinar to see how Simulink® and Simulink® Control Design™ can be used to design, tune, and implement PID controllers, addressing practical considerations such as conversion from continuous to discrete-time domain, implementation in the parallel or ideal form, output saturation, and anti-windup protection.
